MG S6 EV: New Electric SUV Challenges Skoda Enyaq with Competitive Pricing and Range

MG has launched the S6 EV in the UK market, positioning it as a direct competitor to established electric SUVs like the Skoda Enyaq. Starting at £37,995, the S6 offers a compelling combination of range, performance, and value in a rapidly growing segment.

Key Specifications and Performance

The S6 EV is built on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, an extended version of the S5 EV. Two variants are available:

  • Long Range (Rear-Wheel Drive): 241bhp, 258lb ft of torque, and a claimed range of 329 miles.
  • Dual Motor (All-Wheel Drive): 356bhp, 398lb ft of torque, with a slightly reduced range of 301 miles.

The Dual Motor version operates primarily in rear-wheel drive for efficiency, automatically engaging the front motor when needed for improved traction or maximum acceleration.

Charging and Battery Technology

Both models utilize a 77kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery supporting fast charging at up to 144kW. This allows for a 10-80% recharge in approximately 38 minutes.

Interior Features and Space

The S6 EV features a modern cabin equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trim levels (Trophy) include a head-up display.

Practicality is a highlight, offering 674 liters of boot space with the rear seats up, expanding to 1910 liters when folded. A front trunk adds an additional 124 liters of storage, making the S6 one of the most spacious options in its class.

Design and Efficiency Enhancements

The S6 EV shares design cues with the MG S5, featuring high-set daytime running lights and a distinctive split front grille inspired by the MG Cyberster. The grille incorporates active shutters, and flush wheel covers improve aerodynamic efficiency, adding up to 30 miles of extra range.

Pricing and Market Position

MG is aggressively pricing the S6 EV to undercut rivals. The base Long Range model starts at £37,995, undercutting the entry-level Skoda Enyaq at £39,010. The Long Range Trophy costs £40,995, while the top-spec Dual Motor Trophy is priced at £43,995.

The S6 EV presents a strong value proposition in the competitive electric SUV market, offering competitive range, performance, and features at a lower price point than many European alternatives.
