SP40 Restomod: A Modern Take on the 1934 Ford Speedster

The automotive world has a new player: Iconic Auto Sports, an Argentine manufacturer, has unveiled the SP40 Restomod – a strikingly reimagined take on the classic 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster. This isn’t just a replica; it’s a high-performance machine built to honor the spirit of speed while delivering modern capabilities.

Power and Performance

At the heart of the SP40 is a third-generation 5.0-liter Ford Coyote V8 engine. This powerplant generates over 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, channeled through a five-speed Tremec manual transmission. The car also features stainless steel long-tube headers, mufflers, and tailpipes for an aggressive exhaust note.

Handling is equally impressive, with an independent front and rear suspension system providing a refined driving experience. The SP40’s braking system consists of Mustang GT350R brakes, utilizing six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo calipers on cross-drilled discs. The vehicle rolls on 20-inch wheels wrapped in high-performance tires (235/45/R20 front, 275/35/R20 rear).

Lightweight Design and Retro Aesthetics

The SP40 tips the scales at just 2,623 pounds, thanks to a carbon fiber body. Its exterior design blends the elegance of the 1930s with subtle modern touches, such as wider wheels and contemporary headlights, seamlessly integrated into the retro styling. Inside, the cabin combines aluminum, leather, and wood finishes with modern amenities like wireless phone charging and Sparco safety belts.

A Passionate Pursuit

Iconic Auto Sports co-founder Arturo Arrebillaga explains their vision: “Our goal with the introduction of the SP40 was not to replicate history, but to awaken it.” The company emphasizes that every detail – from the engine to the chassis – was designed and crafted in-house, making this a truly unique creation.

Availability and Cost

Iconic Auto Sports has an office in the United States and takes orders there. Pricing has not been disclosed, but given its bespoke nature, the SP40 is expected to come at a significant premium.

The SP40 Restomod is a testament to the enduring appeal of classic car design, combined with modern performance engineering. It’s a vehicle that doesn’t just turn heads; it delivers a driving experience that honors its heritage while embracing the future.
