Ferosticker: The Automatic Fire Extinguisher for Cars

14

Around 100,000 vehicles catch fire each year, leading to write-offs, rising insurance costs, and heartache for owners. While minor damage is common, a car fire can be devastating. The Ferosticker is a new approach to fire safety that promises to eliminate this risk with an automatic system.

How It Works

Unlike traditional extinguishers that require manual operation, the Ferosticker is designed to self-activate. It adheres to the inside of a car’s hood or other enclosed space using adhesive or screws. Once exposed to direct flame or temperatures above 170°C (338°F), it releases a potassium-based extinguishing agent that stops the chemical reaction fueling the fire.

Testing Results

In controlled tests, the Ferosticker activated within 17 seconds when exposed to a simulated engine bay fire. The device deployed a cloud of grey smoke, extinguishing a small pot of petrol surrounded by flammable materials. While some smoldering remained, the flames were immediately suppressed. The smallest F01 model is rated for spaces up to 0.1 cubic meters, but the F03 is recommended for larger engine bays or multiple installations.

Pricing and Availability

Ferosticker units range from £32 to £71, depending on size. They are available directly from ferosticker.com or through Amazon.

The Ferosticker offers a passive safety measure that could prevent catastrophic damage in the event of a car fire. By automating fire suppression, it removes the need for driver intervention and provides an extra layer of protection for vehicles.
