Skoda Kodiaq Mild-Hybrid: New Base Model for 2026

Skoda Australia is streamlining its Kodiaq lineup, introducing a mild-hybrid (mHEV) model as the new entry point for the large SUV in early 2026. This move replaces the outgoing petrol-only Kodiaq 140TSI Select, offering a more efficient and value-focused option for buyers.

Efficiency Gains and Trim Changes

The Kodiaq mHEV Select will come standard with front-wheel drive and five seats, though a seven-seat configuration will be available. This represents a shift from the previous all-wheel drive setup of the 140TSI Select.

Visually, the mHEV Select distinguishes itself with a new 19-inch alloy wheel design, while interior trim has been updated with cloth upholstery instead of leather. The change in materials reflects the model’s positioning as a fleet-oriented option.

Optional Luxury Packages

Customers can upgrade to the Signature Package, available for both five- and seven-seat versions. This package adds premium features such as ‘Suite’ leather upholstery in black or cognac, intelligent parking assistance, a 360-degree camera, power-adjustable front seats with memory and massage functions, a hands-free tailgate, and a Canton premium sound system.

The base model already includes a solid range of equipment: powered driver’s seat, a power tailgate, heated front seats, a 10.0-inch digital instrument display, a 13.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

The Kodiaq mHEV Select is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a mild-hybrid system. This setup delivers 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque, slightly down from the 140kW and 320Nm offered by the outgoing 2.0-liter engine.

Despite the reduced power, fuel efficiency is improved, with Skoda claiming a combined fuel consumption of 6.0L/100km – a significant drop from the 9.2L/100km of the previous 140TSI Select.

Pricing and Market Position

Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but it’s speculated the mHEV Select could be priced around $55,000 plus on-road costs, potentially undercutting the outgoing model’s $56,990 drive-away price. The Kodiaq PHEV Select remains available at $63,490 before on-roads, representing a more technologically advanced option.

This strategic move allows Skoda to offer a broader range of Kodiaq models in 2026, catering to different customer priorities, from value-conscious fleet buyers to those seeking premium features and plug-in hybrid technology.

The Kodiaq Sportline and RS will continue as petrol-only variants, maintaining the lineup’s breadth.
