LDV D90 Becomes Australia’s Most Affordable Seven-Seat Off-Roader

2

The LDV D90 has temporarily secured the title of Australia’s cheapest seven-seat SUV, with a promotional price of $39,990 drive-away for the base “Mode” variant. This reduction, effective until June 30, 2026, positions the D90 competitively against rivals like the Mahindra XUV700 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max.

Price Drop and Market Position

The $3,657 price cut puts the D90 on par with the Mahindra XUV700 AX7L, while remaining slightly above the entry-level XUV700 AX7 ($35,990) and the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max Urban ($38,990). However, it still undercuts established competitors such as the Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander, and MG QS, making it the most affordable seven-seat off-road SUV currently available in Australia.

The discounted pricing applies to both individual buyers and businesses (ABN holders). This move makes the D90 a particularly attractive option for families or businesses needing spacious, off-road capable transport.

Key Features and Specifications

Despite the aggressive pricing, the D90 doesn’t compromise on essential features. All models come standard with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 184kW of power and 410Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The SUV also offers a 3,000kg braked towing capacity and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 9.1L/100km. Note that the vehicle’s previous five-star ANCAP safety rating has expired, which may be a consideration for some buyers.

Trim Levels and Pricing

Beyond the discounted Mode variant, other D90 trims maintain their original pricing:

  • D90 Executive 2WD: $45,490 (ABN) / $47,884 (private)
  • D90 Executive 4WD: $48,990 (ABN) / $51,568 (private)

Optional extras include metallic paint ($500) and a two-tone color scheme ($2,000). The D90 is covered by a seven-year, 200,000km warranty and five years of unlimited-kilometer roadside assistance.

Sales Performance and Context

The D90 was LDV’s second best-selling model in Australia in 2025, with 3,376 units sold —a 43.2% increase year-over-year. This growth places the D90 behind only the LDV T60 ute in the company’s Australian lineup, demonstrating its increasing appeal to buyers seeking value-driven SUVs.

The D90’s price drop underscores the competitive pressure within the Australian SUV market. The influx of Chinese automakers, such as LDV, Mahindra, and Chery, is driving down prices and offering consumers more affordable options. This shift is challenging established brands and forcing them to re-evaluate their pricing strategies.

This aggressive pricing is likely a strategic move by LDV to gain market share and build brand recognition in Australia. The limited-time offer creates a sense of urgency, encouraging potential buyers to act quickly.
