The joint venture between Volkswagen and SAIC, known as AUDI, has officially unveiled its latest all-electric SUV, the E7X, designed exclusively for the Chinese market. The vehicle was revealed during cold-weather testing in China, showcasing its high-performance capabilities and advanced features.
Key Specifications and Performance
The AUDI E7X is a large SUV measuring over five meters in length. It boasts a powerful drivetrain, with the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant delivering a combined output of 500 kW (670 hp). The SUV is available in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and AWD configurations, with the base RWD model offering 300 kW (402 hp).
The E7X offers two battery options: a 100 kWh and a larger 109.3 kWh pack, providing a range between 635 and 751 kilometers. The top speed is limited to 230 km/h.
Unique Design Features
The E7X stands out with its modern design elements, including:
- 22-inch wheels
- Camera-based side mirrors instead of traditional mirrors
- A LiDAR sensor integrated into the roof
- Retractable door handles
- Sculpted fenders and a sloped hood
- Illuminated logo and distinctive LED light patterns
Notably, the wheel logos feature counterweights to ensure the “AUDI” inscription remains upright at all times. The test vehicle was finished in a vibrant purple color.
Market Context and Previous Performance
AUDI operates as a separate brand in China, distinct from the global AUDI lineup, with a different logo – a written badge instead of the iconic four rings. The brand’s first model, the E5 Sportback, launched in 2025, did not achieve strong sales figures, delivering only 6,650 units.
The E7X is the next step for AUDI in China, following the earlier reveal of the E SUV concept in November 2025. The production version was first exposed through the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) homologation process.
The AUDI E7X represents a bold move for the brand in China, with its focus on high performance and advanced technology. Whether it can overcome the previous model’s weak sales remains to be seen, but the E7X has the potential to attract a new segment of electric vehicle buyers.
