Chevrolet Unleashes New Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X with Powerful 6.7-Litre V8

14

Chevrolet has revived the legendary Grand Sport nameplate for its latest C8 Corvette, bringing with it a significant power upgrade and, in one variant, all-wheel drive. The new models—the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X—represent a notable step up in performance, building on the already impressive capabilities of the C8 platform.

Engine and Performance

The core of the Grand Sport is its massive 6.7-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine, which churns out 535bhp and a torque peak of 705Nm. This makes it the highest-torque naturally-aspirated Vette ever built. This new engine will also be available on the standard Corvette Stingray model, replacing the old 495bhp 6.2-litre V8. The power increase comes from forged pistons and rods, a wider throttle body, a revised compression ratio, and a new intake system.

The Grand Sport X takes performance even further, combining the 6.7-litre V8 with the 160bhp electrified front axle from the hybrid E-Ray, resulting in a combined output of 721bhp. This gives the Grand Sport X all-wheel drive, something not previously seen on such a high-performance Corvette.

Handling and Suspension

Both Grand Sport models benefit from the fourth generation of Corvette’s Magnetic Ride adaptive suspension, which adjusts in milliseconds to road conditions. The Grand Sport also offers optional performance packages: the Z52 Sport Performance Package swaps out standard tyres for track-focused Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres and includes brakes from the Z06. The even more aggressive Z52 Track Performance package adds carbon-ceramic brakes, Pilot Sport Cup 2R tyres, a quad-exit exhaust, and a full carbon fibre aero kit.

Styling and Interior

Visually, the Grand Sport features a striking blue body with white stripes and red accents. The rear quad-exhaust tips resemble those of the ZR1, hinting at the car’s performance potential. Both models get 10-spoke forged aluminium wheels (20-inch front, 21-inch rear) and an exclusive Santorini Blue interior colourway with embossed Corvette headrests.

Availability and Pricing

Corvette has previously confirmed the E-Ray model starts at £153,440. While official pricing for the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X is still unannounced, they will likely carry a premium over their siblings. Whether these high-performance models will be available in the UK market remains uncertain.

The Grand Sport and Grand Sport X represent a compelling evolution of the Corvette lineage, blending raw power with advanced technology. With these new additions, Chevrolet continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the American sports car segment.
