GAC Aion will begin accepting pre-orders for its new N60 electric SUV on April 16th, 2024. The vehicle, positioned as a compact crossover, aims to undercut the competition with a starting price below 150,000 yuan (approximately $21,700 USD). The N60 is notable for its standard features, including LiDAR, advanced driver-assistance systems, and a premium “zero-gravity” co-pilot seat.
Design and Dimensions
The N60’s exterior is defined by a full-width light bar integrating dual LED daytime running lights, alongside rectangular headlights and an illuminated logo. The vehicle’s design was spearheaded by Benoit Jacob, formerly of BMW, where he contributed to iconic models like the i3 and i8.
Key dimensions include a length of 4,615mm, a width of 1,860–1,883mm, and a height of 1,673mm, with a 2,775mm wheelbase. Customers can choose from seven exterior colors: Star Ring Silver, Soft Gold, Clear Sky Blue, Polar White, Night Shadow Black, Cloud Grey, and Sea Glow Grey.
Interior and Tech
Inside, the N60 features a minimalist yet modern cabin with three available color schemes: Soft Light White, Caramel Warm Velvet, and Morning Mist Cool Grey. The centerpiece is a 15.6-inch 2.5K high-definition touchscreen running GAC Aion’s ADiGO 6.0 system, which includes AI voice control, Huawei Nebula Space connectivity, and support for both Apple and Android smartphones.
The cabin prioritizes comfort and space, offering a 2.38㎡ panoramic sunroof, a 447L trunk expandable to 1,947L, and 35 integrated storage compartments. The “zero-gravity” co-pilot seat in the front provides heating, ventilation, massage, and memory functions, while rear passengers benefit from adjustable backrests.
Performance and Safety
The N60 is powered by an amorphous alloy silicon carbide electric drive system producing 165 kW (221 hp) with an energy consumption rate of 11.7 kWh per 100 km. GAC Aion claims a maximum range of 610 km on a full charge. The vehicle uses a five-link independent rear suspension and comes standard with 4D millimetre-wave radar and LiDAR for advanced driver-assistance features.
The system leverages WeRide’s L4 autonomous driving technology for full-scenario high-level intelligent driving assistance and intelligent parking.
The N60’s aggressive pricing and feature set position it as a strong contender in the increasingly competitive EV market. GAC Aion is clearly targeting consumers seeking advanced tech and comfort without breaking the bank.
The vehicle’s combination of performance, range, and standard driver assistance features suggests it’s designed to appeal to a broad range of buyers, from urban commuters to those seeking longer-range capability.
