Military-Grade Chevrolet ISV-U Set for Unique Charity Auction

In a rare crossover between defense technology and high-end automotive collecting, GM Defense has announced it will auction off the first-ever Infantry Squad Vehicle–Utility (ISV-U). Partnering with the renowned auction house Barrett-Jackson, the sale is scheduled for April 18, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Medal of Honor Foundation.

A Specialized Tactical Machine

The ISV-U is not a standard consumer pickup; it is a highly specialized, ultra-light tactical vehicle designed for high-speed, off-road mobility in demanding environments. While it shares DNA with the civilian Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, its build is purpose-driven for military utility.

Key technical specifications and features include:
Powertrain: A 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel four-cylinder engine delivering 275 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.
Drivetrain: A six-speed automatic transmission paired with a robust four-wheel-drive system.
Off-Road Hardware: The vehicle utilizes DSSV dampers and electronic locking front and rear differentials—technology borrowed from the high-performance ZR2 trim to handle extreme terrain.
Rugged Design: The open five-seater cabin is equipped with a protective roll cage, skid plates, recovery hooks, a shortened windshield, and 17-inch wheels fitted with BFGoodrich KM3 tires.

The vehicle features a custom “Olive Drab” livery designed to honor America’s 250th anniversary, the Medal of Honor, and the specific U.S. Army units that deploy the ISV-U in the field.

Strict Ownership and Legal Constraints

Prospective bidders should note that owning a piece of military hardware comes with significant legal complexities. Unlike a standard vehicle purchase, the ISV-U is subject to strict regulations:

  1. Non-Street Legal: The vehicle is not certified to comply with any federal, state, or local laws; it cannot be driven on public roads.
  2. Export Restrictions: The sale is subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations, meaning the technology cannot be easily moved out of the country.
  3. Citizenship Requirement: Due to the nature of the hardware, the buyer must be a U.S. citizen.

Supporting Military Heroes

Beyond the novelty of owning a tactical vehicle, the auction serves a philanthropic purpose. Steve duMont, President of GM Defense, emphasized that the sale is intended to support the Medal of Honor Foundation’s mission to care for recipients of the nation’s highest military honor and preserve their legacies.

“This vehicle was designed to help soldiers accomplish their missions in the toughest conditions, and we’re proud that its first public sale will directly support the foundation’s work,” stated duMont.

Conclusion
This auction represents a unique intersection of military engineering and philanthropy, offering a rare opportunity to acquire specialized defense hardware while supporting veterans. However, due to its non-street-legal status and strict export controls, it remains a specialized asset for collectors rather than a practical vehicle for the general public.
