Xiaomi’s YU7 GT: Fast, Loud, Expensive

The lights dimmed in Beijing on May 21. Xiaomi’s “Human x Car x Home” gala. A spectacle, mostly. But they finally pulled the curtain off the YU7 GT. It’s an SUV. It wants to be fast. The base price is 389,903 yuan, or roughly 57,300 dollars. That’s the entry ticket. Want to spend more? Good luck. Add the “Big Full Pack” and you’re at 429,000 yuan. Or just grab the GT Sports Kit, marked up to 34,003 yuan but temporarily slashed to a measly 14,034. Bargain hunting on a million-dollar toy is a strange art form.

Engineered for Stress

“Gran Turismo.” That’s the claim. Long distances, high speeds, expensive taste. Xiaomi put their V8s EMO motor in the heart of the thing. It spins up to 28,000 RPM. Wild numbers. They used silicon carbide power modules to squeeze another 5.9% of power out of it. The steel sheets inside the rotor are thinner than a human hair, at 0.15 millimeters. Efficiency sits at a crisp 98.33%.

Power peaks at 733 kilowatts. Call it 993 horsepower if you like big numbers. It goes from zero to 133 kilometers an hour in 3.93 seconds. The top speed is 303 km/h. Do you plan on hitting that limit? Probably not. But you can. A 101.3 kilowatt-hour ternary lithium battery handles the load. Sit in a charger for 15 minutes. You get 373 kilometers of range. The CLTC total is 705 kilometers. Adequate.

Chassis That Knows Its Way Around the ‘Ring’

The undercarriage has been tested at the Nürburgring they claim. The “Jiaolong Chassis Master” edition isn’t for faint of heart. Dual-valve CDC dampers adjust resistance instantly. Air springs control height and stiffness without cross-contamination. The rear axle has an eLSD, sending power to whichever wheel needs it within milliseconds.

Stopping requires brute force. Carbon-ceramic discs. Akebono calipers with six pistons in front, four in back. It brings the beast to a halt from 133 km/h in just 33 meters. Brake fade? Unlikely. You can hit 130 km/h, brake, repeat ten times straight. The brakes don’t complain. Who brakes ten times in a row? Racers do. Or people showing off.

Loud Design Choices

Five color options exist. “Crimson Red” leans sport. “Volcanic Grey” is supposed to look luxury, which is odd because grey rarely does that on its own. There’s “Obsidian Black” and “Pearl White,” the classics, plus a “Titanium” fashion variant. Carbon fiber everywhere. Even a 24k gold badge is on the table for the sufficiently devoted.

Inside, the silence is forced. Not earned, engineered. Three square meters of Alcantara wrap the cabin. It feels soft. Four seats massage your back. A smart canopy blocks 99.83% of the light, turning day into night. Noise cancellation is layered into the glass. PVB acoustic sheets in the doors and windshield. More than thirty insulation tweaks. It is quiet. Too quiet?

A 33-speaker sound system fills the void. Dolby Atmos supported. Active noise cancellation humming in the background. Is it comfortable? Yes. It costs extra comfort tax. Xiaomi built a spaceship for your driveway.
